Chapter Six

Derek

What the heck was that?

My hand tightens on Annie’s hip as I lead her down the hallway and back into the living room. I can’t stop replaying that kiss. I don’t know what came over me. One minute I was trying to comfort her and the next thing I knew I was pushing her back against the door and claiming her mouth. It was like my brain short-circuited as soon as my lips touched hers and I was powerless to do anything but kiss her. Lust courses through me and my cock hardens in my jeans as I remember how Annie had responded. Her fingers tangling in my short hair and her leg wrapping around me.

She was just as turned on as I was in that bathroom. My lips are still tingling as we walk out to sit down in the living room. My Mom has set up some snack food and I make Annie and I a plate before I join her on the couch. She’s talking to my Aunt Ruby but she smiles at me when I sit down next to her and offer her some food from the plate.

We spend the next few hours chatting with my family and acting like the perfect couple. Annie stays by my side, her arm wrapped around me or resting on my thigh. I can feel our relationship changing already and surprisingly, that doesn’t scare me. I like Annie touching me. I like seeing her happy and comfortable with my family.

I smile as I watch Annie play on the living room floor with my nephew. She shakes one of his rattles at him and he lets out his high-pitched giggle. She laughs with him, rolling him onto his back and blowing raspberries onto his stomach. I grin as they continue to play, looking up to see my Mom watching me with a knowing look on her face.

The front door opens and my dad walks in with my brother-in-law. They both work at the nearby hospital and had to work this morning. Everyone greets them and Annie and I both stand to give them a hug and say happy Thanksgiving. My dad hugs me, whispering it’s about time in my ear before he nods towards Annie.

“Dinner is ready!” my Mom calls out and I wrap my arm around Annie’s waist before we head her into the dining room.

I help Annie into her chair before I head over to the counter, pouring Annie a glass of wine, white because she hates red, and grab a glass of water for myself.

“Thank you,” she says with a smile when I pass her the wine glass.

I look up to see my whole family smiling at me like they’re proud of me. I sigh as I take my seat next to her and try to ignore them.

“Okay! Before we dig in, let’s go around the table and say what we’re thankful for. I’ll start,” my Mom says from where she sits at one end of the table.
